We’re seeing James Mangold’s gritty Wolverine backstory in a whole new light here in Stratford on 30th October – going out with a bang before we close our doors for the colder months.
The film, presented to you on vivid black and white reel, is set in the near future and follows a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) as he cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) at a remote outpost on the Mexican border.
His well-laid plans to see out his days away from the outside world get upended when he meets a young mutant (Dafne Keen) who is very much like him. Seeing a part of himself in the upstart, Logan feels compelled to protect the girl and battle the dark forces that want to capture her.
The black and white reel elevates what is already a masterful superhero flick, and has been described as ‘absolutely stunning’. Every scene and angle looks like something out of an arthouse film, like the classic Hollywood Westerns that the movie tries so hard to encapsulate, and we end up with a bare-knuckle ride that is certainly more than the sum of its parts.
We’re due to get stuck into this Wolverine re-imagining at 8pm sharp, but we advise guests to arrive at around 7:30pm so they have more than enough time to settle in and collect any food or drink from our bar.
Food & Drink tickets are available below for £10 a head, and include any meal from Empress Market’s eclectic menu plus a beer or wine of your choice.
