Pitch Cinema barrels on into October with a screening of Martin Scorsese’s iconic 2006 crime drama, The Departed.
The film follows south Boston cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he goes undercover to infiltrate the organisation of gangland chief Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson).
As Billy gains the mobster’s trust, a career criminal named Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) in turn infiltrates the police department, reporting back on their undercover activities to his syndicate bosses.
When both organisations learn they have a mole in their midst chaos ensues, and Billy and Colin must figure out each other’s real identities to save their own lives.
The film was a critical and commercial success upon its release, and won four Oscars at the Academy Awards – for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay (the film was an adaptation of 2002 Hong Kong film Internal Affairs) and Best Film Editing.
A white-knuckle ride of intrigue, deception, and death from start to finish, The Departed is definitely one to watch. It’s due to begin at 8pm sharp, but we advise guests to arrive at around 7:30pm so they have more than enough time to settle in and collect any food or drink from our bar.
Food & Drink tickets are available below for £10 a head, and include any meal from Empress Market’s eclectic menu plus a beer or wine of your choice. Drink-only tickets are £5, whilst standard entry (minus food & drink) to all our screenings is absolutely free when you sign up to our film club below.
