Baz Luhrmann’s iconic reimagining of Shakespeare’s famous romantic tragedy is the next film to get its turn on our big outdoor cinema screen.
Instead of fair Verona, this update is set in a post-modern city named Verona Beach, while Capulets and Montagues have been recast as two rival street gangs.
Leonardo di Caprio and Clare Danes occupy the leading eponymous title roles, and they instantly fall in love after Romeo crashes a party and meets her, despite being members of feuding families.
The resulting plot should be familiar to one and all, but this modern take on an old classic possesses enough verve and imagination to throw a few curveballs our way.
Since it’s release, it’s become a cult classic for its vivid camerawork, memorable sounrtrack, imaginative repurposing of Shakespeare’s original script, and – let’s face it – ridiculously cool wardrobes.
The film is due to begin at 8pm sharp, but we advise guests to arrive at around 7:30pm so they have more than enough time to settle in and collect any food or drink from our bar.
Food & Drink tickets are available below for £10 a head, and include any meal from Empress Market’s eclectic menu plus a beer or wine of your choice. Standard entry (minus food & drink) to all our screenings is absolutely free when you sign up to our film club below.
