At the end of July, we’re putting on a screening of George Miller’s gonzo revival of the much-loved Mad Max franchise – in black and white.
Miller had always intended his remake to be shot on black and white film, and – watching this glorious monochrome romp through the apocalyptic wasteland – you’ll be quick to see why.
The strikingly pale hues of the film’s antagonist War Boys show up particularly well in monochrome, while the many explosions take on a more elegant quality when deprived of colour.
For those unfamiliar with the film itself, the plot centres around Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) – a loner and former captive – who strikes an alliance with warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) as they attempt to escape tyrannical warlord Immortan Joe in a deadly high-speed chase through the wasteland.
Imagine a monster-truck motocross competition staged by a more nihilistic version of Cirque du Soleil.. and you’re half way there.
Food & Drink tickets are available below for £10 a head, and include any meal from Empress Market’s eclectic menu plus a beer or wine of your choice. Standard entry (no food and drink included) to all our screenings is absolutely free when you sign up to our film club below.
