Next up on our big outdoor screen is this classic 90s coming-of-age romantic comedy, written and directed by Amy Heckerling.
The film follows shallow, rich and socially successful Cher (Alicia Silverstone), who is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking scale.
Fancying herself as something of a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other and, emboldened by her success, she decides to give klutzy new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover.
When Tai eventually outstrips her on the popularity scale, Cher realises that her disapproving ex-stepbrother (Paul Rudd) was right about how misguided she was – and falls for him.
Clueless has gone on to enjoy widespread critical acclaim for its clever reimagining of its original source material – Jane Austen’s Emma – and is now considered a bona-fide cult classic.
